Held Between Names is a work by the artist presented as part of Đoàn tụ. It uses a set of museum display cases on loan from the City of Bordeaux, installed empty across the exhibition space and connected to one another by a visible electrical cable. Each case retains its standard museological specifications: glass housing, internal lighting, base plinth. None of the cases contains an object. The cable runs case to case, along the floor or wall, wired into the existing lighting circuit. Each unit remains lit. The circuit is left exposed, not concealed within the plinth.
The cases come from municipal collections. Their design follows a standard developed for ethnographic and colonial-era objects: fixed lighting angled toward the center, sightlines built for a single frontal object, glass rated for object security rather than visibility. That standard remains visible in the empty case: the lighting still falls at the center, on the point where an object would have sat.
The work adds no new material to the room. It rearranges existing municipal equipment and leaves the arrangement running.
