The Silent Sky (2020)
Video, 28 min, Stereo, 4K
Vietnamese, subtitles in French and English

The Silent Sky is a video built around the life of the artist's mother, spanning the period before her arrival in France and the years following her settling there. The film is structured around her spoken account, tracing departure, adaptation, and the successive adjustments exile requires.

Her narration also carries the artist's own migration, which takes shape indirectly, through his mother's words rather than his own. Transmission here takes the form of shared stories, silences, gestures, and affects, alongside the facts themselves including inherited ways of thinking, of protecting oneself, of loving, and of resisting.

Set between Đồng Hới and France, the film treats memory as a living, transferable structure. It traces how the experience of exile marks one generation and continues to operate in the next, shaping choices, fears, and impulses across a lifetime.
